There are 3 lights upstairs, and three light switches, downstairs with you. You can go up the stairs one time, and CANNOT come back down the stairs. How do you find which switch goes with which light? (NOTE: You cannot see the lights from downstairs).
Answer
Call the switches 1, 2, and 3.
- Turn on switch 1 and 2.
- Wait for 5 minutes.
- Turn off switch 2.
- Go upstairs
- The light that is on is switch 1
- The light that is out, but is still warm from being turned on for 5 minutes switch 2
- The light that is turned off and not warm is switch 3.
