Carl and Matthew are two good friends but totally opposite. Carl always lies and Matthew always tells the truth. If one of them said, “The other one said he is Carl.” Which one said that?

There are only two possible answers here: Carl or Matthew. If Matthew said “The other one said he is Carl,” he would be lying because Carl can never admit that he is Carl because by doing so, he would be telling the truth. So, Matthew could not have said it. The answer is Carl.
